At the end of April 2024 we held our event Generation Debt: looking at the impact of debt across all ages and wages, down in London.

The event drew on the findings from our collaborative report with Etic Lab, Problem Debt in the Cost of Living Crisis and Beyond. You can read more about the report and download the full audiobook version here.

The event created space for interesting and helpful discussions around the topic of debt, and three main themes were highlighted:

1. Collaboration

It’s vital that businesses within the debt sector share data to help support better outcomes for customers. Everyone involved in the debt support pathway needs to work together to best support the most important person in the relationship – the customer!

2. Financial education

Early intervention in the form of financial education is desperately needed.

3. Ease of access to debt advice

It’s easy to get credit, but it’s not as easy to get debt advice. Technology has made it easier to get credit (for example, Buy Now Pay Later), but there’s a lack of robust affordability checks and access to debt advice digitally.
